Varsity Field Hockey Player, Westbrook High School - Class of 2019

"Being able to play high school field hockey was the most exciting part of my freshman year. The team had a solid group of Seniors & Juniors, and I knew getting a roster spot was going to be tough. Coach Murphy came to visit us in June of our 8th grade year, sharing the signups for summer league. She told us then, "Speed, stick skills & a great attitude will earn you a spot on my team, so get working". With that advice I ran all summer. I went to camps, played summer league Field Hockey and Basketball too. Westbrook had not had a full season freshman starter in years and that was my goal. And, I did it, I made the varsity team as a freshman, and I started all 16 games. I played every OT except the first one of the season. At the end of the season banquet when I was awarded a spot on the All Conference Rookie Team I was very excited, but honestly I was thinking about the next season, what our roster would look like, who was filling the spots of our 5 graduating seniors and could we improve our 8-8 record.  And when was my next lesson, club practice or tourney..."
